Girl Scout Cookies for Everyone
“It’s cookie time!” cries most young girls for that time of year where girl scouts sell cookies. This is a tradition established by the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) since 1917 to involve young women in raising funds for their local community. Top-selling girls win prizes and there are also unit prizes where a team is rewarded accordingly if everyone does well in their selling of cookies. Now who said that scouting is all about camping?
Camping is indeed a fun activity that all scouts should experience. Just be cautious and follow safety rules and guidelines whenever you are staying or spending time outdoors. You need to have the right kind of gears and equipment, and a sturdy camping tent is a must, too.
But fun is not all about camping. When you ask grown women about their scouting years, many look back to their cookie selling. Girl Scout cookies are famous and many people also look forward to “cookie season”. This promotes the atmosphere of healthy competition amongst young women. They work hard to win the prizes at stake, and they work together for the unit. This instills the value of hard work and team cooperation in them.
The cookie sales profit is divided within the different levels of the Girl Scout organization: the national, regional, and local council or troops of girls. The profits earned from selling the cookies go a long way in paying events and activities organized by the Girls Scouts, the maintenance of properties and camps, sale incentives, and other GSUSA administration costs.
