Shake the brush gently and observe if there are falling bristles. If there are, that is not a good sign of a good makeup brush, you better try to find another. Also, inspect if the handle of the brush fits comfortably into your hands. If you have tiny hands, a small makeup brush is most likely easier to work with.

For smoother and finer application of makeup in your soft skin, a dome shaped brush is the best choice since the have round edges that are not harsh on the face. Avoid from buying makeup brushes that are blunt and that have stiff and rough tips.

Run your fingers into the bristles of the brush and check if they are tightly woven together or if they flow smoothly in one direction. Always choose the latter in terms of the feel of the brush. Also, make sure that each bristle is not too hard that it can damage the skin or too soft that makeup gets wasted.
